Czech Airlines Flight Delay Compensation

Czech Airlines flight delay compensation.

How to claim for delayed flight? And how much can you get?

If your Czech Airlines flight is delayed, you may be eligible for compensation. There are specific conditions under which you can receive compensation from the airline. In this case, the cost of your ticket, whether you have travel insurance, your age, and your nationality are irrelevant. This is because all passengers within the EU, EEA and the UK are safeguarded by law, and Czech Airlines is obligated to adhere to these regulations.

How to claim compensation for a delayed flight?

Czech Airlines – The National Airline of the Czech Republic

Czech Airlines is the national flag carrier of the Czech Republic, with its hub at Václav Havel Airport Prague. It centres operations in key cities like Karlovy Vary and Ostrava. Founded in 1923, the airline operates flights across Europe and Asia.

Czech Airlines is recognized as a 3-star airline for its service excellence.

Czech Airlines partners with major carriers including Aegean Airlines, KLM, Air France, Qatar Airways, and Iberia through codeshare agreements.

1. Czech Airlines Flight Delay Compensation: EU Regulations

Overall, the EU flight delay compensation rules are simple.

Your flight is eligible for compensation if it lands 3+ hours later than scheduled, and this delay is due to the fault of the airline. These rules are the same also in the UK.

If you’re flying to or from Europe, your flight is delayed for 3 or more hours, and the delay is due to the fault of Czech Airlines, you are eligible for compensation of up to €600.

Could you be entitled to Czech Airlines flight delay compensation?

Yes, if:

  • You experience a 3+ hour flight delay;
  • Flight delay is due to the fault of Czech Airlines;
  • Flight is to or from Europe.

All of this applies to all Czech Airlines delays and cancellations.

If you are flying with a non-EU airline (Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas, American Airlines, Korean Airlines, etc.), it applies only to flights departing from Europe.

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances

There are situations when you aren’t eligible for compensation.

Here we are talking about extraordinary circumstances. If your flight is delayed due to extraordinary circumstances, it’s considered that the airline is not at fault.

It includes but isn’t limited to bad weather, natural disasters, civil unrest, acts of terrorism, security risks, and political unrest. If your flight is delayed due to any of these reasons, you can’t get flight delay compensation from Czech Airlines. Simply because the airline has no control over such events.

What if your flight is delayed due to an aeroplane technical problem? Does your flight qualify for compensation? Yes, there is a high chance that you may be entitled to compensation. As long as the delay is at least 3 hours.

What about airline staff strikes? If it’s a Czech Airlines staff strike, and that causes a significant delay, you might be entitled to strike compensation from Czech Airlines.

If it’s a strike unrelated to the airline, you won’t get compensation.

Are you claiming compensation on your own?

Remember, that not always airlines are telling the full truth.

When it comes to money, always double-check what you’re told.

To avoid paying compensation, even the best airlines in the world may not tell the full truth. This is done to avoid the financial losses it incurs. Always ask for proof and don’t back down, be persistent when communicating with the airline.

If this sounds like too much of a hassle, work with a flight compensation company. They can check your flight on your behalf, and you won’t have to deal with the airline yourself. Our partners offer such services.

1.2 How to Calculate the Total Delay Time?

What matters is the exact time of your arrival.

At your destination, not somewhere in between.

You see, a flight may depart late and still arrive on time. That’s why it’s all about the actual time of arrival, as it’s known in the industry. It applies to all flights, single flights and connecting flights. If you have a connecting flight, look at the actual time of arrival at your final destination.

What is the actual time of arrival?

It’s the moment when the doors of the aeroplane are opened. If the doors are opened 3 or more hours after the planned arrival time, you can get compensation from Czech Airlines (if it was their fault).

1.3 Right to Care from Czech Airlines

In Europe you also have a right to care.

If your flight is 3 or more hours late, you have a right to care from Czech Airlines. Here is what it means according to the EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.

Czech Airlines must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, and two free phone calls or e-mails. If the flight is delayed more than a few hours, and it’s happening at night, you should be offered free hotel accommodation and free transportation from and to the airport as well.

All passengers are eligible for this type of care from the airline.

2. How to Claim Czech Airlines Compensation For Delayed Flight?

There are two ways you can do it online. You can contact Czech Airlines, or you can hand over the case to experts in air passengers rights.

One of the options is to contact Czech Airlines yourself. Write an email to the Czech Airlines customer support centre. Request flight delay compensation. Refer to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, or Regulation UK261 if it’s a UK flight. Give them all the information about the flight that you have.

The second option is — legal representation.

It’s by far the easiest of the two options.

In short, fill in and sign one form. That’s it.

The rest is done by a team of air passenger rights professionals. If the airline refuses to cooperate, the company will deal with this. You won’t have to negotiate with the airline directly.

When choosing this option, here is all you will have to do:

Use this simple flight delay compensation calculator.

When your destination is within the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

3.1 Czech Airlines Voucher Refund or Cash?

You might be offered a Czech Airlines voucher instead of compensation.

If Czech Airlines proposes a voucher instead of compensation, accepting it isn’t mandatory. Typically, in Europe, airline compensations and refunds are issued in cash or via bank transfer. That’s regulated by law. So, ask for money (bank transfer) instead.
